SO WE'RE HOPING FOR THEM TO BE LEGENDS AND LET THEM KNOW THAT IT'S NOT JUST A FLUKE.

THIS IS PURPOSE. IT'S ALREADY WRITTEN.
THAT'S SOMETHING WE SAYAT SOUTH OAK CLIFF.
IT'S ALREADY WRITTEN. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
GOOD EVENING. THIS IS THE DISTRICT SIX REPORT.
AGAIN, I THE SUPERINTENDENT HAD MENTIONED THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RENAMING FOR OTTO M.
FRIDIA. WHAT? SHE PROBABLY DIDN'T KNOW THAT DR.
FRIDIA WAS MY HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, AND SO QUITE OFTEN WHEN I WOULD COME TO THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, HE CONTINUED TO CALL ME HIS STUDENT AND CONTINUED TO CONTROL AND DIRECT AS HE DID AS A PRINCIPAL.
I'VE LEARNED SOMETHING SINCE THEN, BUT IT WAS REALLY EXCITING TO BE ABLE TO NAME A SCHOOL IN HIS HONOR AND TO ALSO HONOR A PILLAR IN OUR COMMUNITY. MISS EMMA ROGERS, WHO IS WELL KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY FOR THE BLACK IMAGES BOOK BAZAAR WHERE SHE HAD FOR YEARS AND MANY PEOPLE GATHERED THERE TO GAIN INFORMATION.
I JOINED DISTRICT SIX AND THE ENTIRE SCHOOL COMMUNITY IN MOURNING THE PASSING OF MR. GAYLE DAVID DUPREE.
HE WILL LONG BE REMEMBERED BY STUDENTS, COLLEAGUES AND THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE AS A BELOVED TEACHER COACH AND THE AND HE WAS THE PRINCIPAL AT CARTER HIGH SCHOOL IN DISTRICT SIX.

ONCE AGAIN, MY CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY.

YOU ARE THE HEARTBEAT OF OUR DISTRICT AND WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE WORK THAT YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS ON A DAILY BASIS. ONCE AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS.
ALSO CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF GEORGE KEATON, WHO WAS A CHURCH MEMBER, A FRIEND AND A PILLAR IN THE COMMUNITY WHO STRIVED TO MAKE SURE THAT HISTORY DIDN'T GO UNNOTICED.
MY CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY AND I WILL ALWAYS BE IN PRAYER FOR THEM.
THANKS TO THE ADMINISTRATION FOR THEIR CONTINUED EFFORT TO IMPROVE THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR ALL OF THE STUDENTS, I.E.
I DIDN'T PULL ANY ITEMS FROM THE AGENDA.
[CHUCKLING] WILL YOU LET ME FINISH? SOUTH OAK CLIFF.
DOWN THE STREET FROM KIMBALL AND CARTER.
WE'RE BEHIND YOU, AND GUESS WHAT? I'LL BE THERE IN ALL BLACK CHEERING YOU ON TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET THE WELL DESERVED WIN THAT WILL BE COMING FORWARD. WATCHING YOU AND LOOKING AT YOU, BUT REMEMBER, THERE ARE THREE SCHOOLS IN SOUTHERN DALLAS THAT ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS.
[00:30:01]
THAT WOULD BE SOUTH CLIFF.DUNCANVILLE AND DESOTO CHEERING FOR ALL OF THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE OUR KIDS.
LASTLY TO THE BOARD MEMBERS AND OTHERS.

THIS IS NOTHING NEW. THIS IS YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR.
THE ROBO HORNETS CAME IN THIRD PLACE IN THE QUEEN HORNETS OBTAINED THE EXCELLENCE AWARD.
I WILL GIVE THE DISTRICT EIGHT ACCOLADES.
KUDOS TO MEDIA SPECIALIST MARIA CRISTINA GARCIA AT GABE ALLEN ELEMENTARY, WHO WAS RECENTLY AWARDED $6,800 IN GRANTS FROM TOYOTA DRIVE FOR HER PROJECTS TITLED TEACHING FINANCIAL LITERACY A GARDEN OF POSSIBILITIES AND CALMING ROOM.

GLITTER JARS AND FIDGET TOYS AS THEY DISTRIBUTED GIFT BAGS.
THEY ALSO READ A BOOK TO EACH CLASS.
TRUIST BANK ALSO DONATED A GIFT BAG FOR EVERY STAFF MEMBER AT CHAVEZ.
WE ARE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THEIR GENEROSITY, AND THEN I ALSO WANT TO SAY JUST THANK YOU TO SUPERINTENDENT AND TO EVERYONE FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES.
IT'S GETTING HARDER FOR ME TO FIND A ROOM WHERE I'M THE YOUNGEST PERSON IN THE ROOM.
BUT ON A BI-MONTHLY BASIS, THANK YOU FOR THE FEELING, AND, AND THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THANK YOU TO THE ENTIRE DALLAS ISD FAMILY.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
I, ON THE OTHER HAND, DIDN'T REALLY APPRECIATE THE BIRTHDAY WISHES.
THANK YOU FOR THE NICE SENTIMENT.
[CHUCKLING] I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT BEING THE OLDEST GUY IN THE ROOM.
SORRY. YEAH, DAN WALKED INTO THAT.
I GIVE THE DISTRICT NINE ACCOLADES.

THANKS TO THE STAFF AND STUDENTS FOR OPENING THEIR HEARTS TO THE COMMUNITY IN A TIME OF NEED.
[00:35:07]
YOU MAKE US VERY PROUD, AND I WANT TO KIND OF ECHO QUOTING DR.LUSK CAN SPEAK TO THIS BETTER THAN I CAN, BUT THE STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF AND PRINCIPALS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT THE COWBOYS FACILITIES, AND FROM WHAT I'M SEEING, I GOT TO INTERACT WITH CHARLES HALEY.
SO I'M SURE THAT WAS A PHENOMENAL EXPERIENCE.
SO YEAH, WE GOT TO MEET DAK AND ZEKE IN DISTRICT NINE.
LUSK, NEXT TIME YOU GO TO THE COWBOYS FACILITIES, I'M A COWBOY FAN, TOO.
[INAUDIBLE] ON A SEPARATE, PROBABLY MORE SERIOUS NOTE, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS START WITH DR.
HE'S ALSO A BOARD MEMBER OF PRESERVATION DALLAS AND THE AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM AND WAS INDUCTED INTO THE AFRICAN AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL ARCHIVES AND HISTORY PROGRAMS HALL OF FAME IN 2019.
FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE READ JUST MERCY, IN 2020, HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE INSTALLATION OF PUBLIC MARKERS TO HONOR THE VICTIMS OF RACIAL VIOLENCE IN DALLAS. I ALSO WANT TO HONOR THE LIFE OF MR. GAYLE DUPREE AND THEN ANOTHER ACTUALLY FRIEND OF MINE.
SO PERFECT PRIVILEGE, BUT A GRADUATE OF TOWN VIEW AND A FORMER TEACHER IN OUR DISTRICT, MR. TURNER COOPER, WHO ALSO PASSED THIS WEEK.
SO A DIFFICULT WEEK, BUT AS WE LEAVE FOR THE HOLIDAYS, BOTH THE BOARD, THE SUPERINTENDENT OF STAFF AND FOLKS IN THE ROOM THAT ARE JUST HERE, A GENTLE REMINDER TO LOVE ON YOUR PEOPLE, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR FAMILIES.
LIFE IS VERY FRAGILE, AND AS I LOOK AT THOSE THREE PEOPLE, MR. GAYLE DUPREE, DR. GEORGE KEATON AND TURNER COOPER, ONE THING THAT JUST STANDS OUT OF ALL THREE OF THEM, THEY MADE AN IMPACT WHEREVER THEY WENT.
AND WITH THAT NOTE, IT'S AN HONOR TO SERVE WITH THIS BOARD AND THE SUPERINTENDENT, AND I WISH EVERYONE A HAPPY HOLIDAY IN THE NEW YEAR, SINCE I WON'T SEE YOU AGAIN BEFORE THEN, AND I'M NOT TRYING TO SEE IT IF [INAUDIBLE].
I WILL BE WITH MY OWN FAMILY, AND THAT CONCLUDES THE DISTRICT NINE REPORT.
[6. PUBLIC FORUM]
OUR AGENDA NOW CALLS FOR A PUBLIC FORUM SEGMENT OF OUR MEETING.SO IF WE'LL CALL IT THE SPEAKERS? GO AHEAD AND GO STRAIGHT INTO THE SPEAKERS.
SORRY. GO AHEAD. OKAY, SPEAKERS, YOU WILL HAVE 3 MINUTES TO SPEAK WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE MICROPHONE.
PLEASE LISTEN CAREFULLY FOR YOUR NAME AS I WILL CALL FOUR SPEAKERS AT A TIME.
OUR FIRST SPEAKER IS TANIA HERNANDEZ, FOLLOWED BY G.
FLOYD WITH ROBERT CECCARELLI AND CHRIS [INAUDIBLE] ON DECK.
OK G. FLOYD, FOLLOWED BY ROBERT CECCARELLI WITH CHRIS [INAUDIBLE] AND TEDDY KIM ON DECK.
ROBERT CECCARELLI FOLLOWED BY CHRIS [INAUDIBLE] WITH TEDDY KIM AND ROSEMARY [INAUDIBLE] ON DECK.
GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY, SCHOOL BOARD.
THE REASON WHY I CAME TONIGHT, I'M GOING TO BE COMING EVERY MONTH.
THERE WAS AN ARTICLE WRITTEN ABOUT ME, AND I HOPE YOU READ ABOUT IT.
MAYBE SOME CHANGES COULD BE DONE AND DECIDE ABOUT THE TUTORING AND ABOUT THE STUDENTS.
SEE, THE WORK DONE BY THE STUDENTS IS NOT IN THE CLASSROOM.
IT'S OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM, BUT YOU NEVER TALK ABOUT THAT.
YOU ALWAYS DO IS TALK ABOUT TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS INSIDE THE CLASSROOM.
YOU GET THE GREAT TEACHERS, BUT IT'S THE WORK OUTSIDE OF CLASSROOM.
[00:40:01]
IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE, AND THE TUTORING CAN BE DONE BY COLLEGE STUDENTS, BUT IT HAS TO BE EMPHASIZED, MR. SUPERINTENDENT, BECAUSE THIS IS WHERE THE EDUCATION IS.MAYBE THE PLACEMENT OF THE STUDENTS IS THAT MAYBE THE PARENTS ARE NOT EDUCATED.
MAYBE BECAUSE WHERE THEY LIVE, IT'S TO WATCH CHAOS, BUT AT LEAST THEY'LL HAVE SOMEONE THEY CAN LOOK UP TO AS A MENTOR, BUT IT'S NEVER TALKED ABOUT FOR 12 YEARS SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE, HAS NEVER BEEN TALKED ABOUT.
YOU NEED TO CHANGE THAT SO THE WAY THE STUDENTS CAN FEEL LIKE THEY FEEL COMFORTABLE.
ALSO, WE TALK ABOUT THE TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS, ABOUT HOW GOOD THEY SUPPOSED TO BE AND ALL THE PRESSURE YOU TALK ABOUT, AND THE STATE IS LOOKING AT THE TEACHERS TO SEE HOW GOOD THEY ARE.
YOU GET ALL THESE EVALUATIONS, BUT YOU NEVER TALK ABOUT THE PARENT AND STUDENT, PARENT AND STUDENT.
IT'S VERY, VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO THAT BECAUSE RIGHT NOW THE TEACHERS ARE VERY MUCH BURIED.
THEY ARE UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE.
YOU'VE GOT TO START DOING THIS RIGHT NOW.
THE STUDENTS NEED TO DO THE WORK.
THE STUDENTS NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
DOES EVERYBODY UNDERSTAND ME? THAT IS NEVER DONE.
STUDENTS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HARD WORK, AND THAT'S ABOUT SOUTH OAK CLIFF.
YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT ABOUT THE EDUCATION.
YOU TALK ABOUT SOCCER AND FOOTBALL, BUT NOT THE KIDS AND EDUCATION.
YOU NEED TO CHANGE THAT IMMEDIATELY, STARTING WITH MIKE MILES HINOJOSA.
YOU NEED TO START TO SHOW INTEREST IN THE STUDENTS AND THE TEACHERS WILL COME AND FLOCK IN DISD, BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE THE TEACHERS' BACK, BECAUSE THE STUDENTS WILL KNOW THAT THEY CAN'T PLAY AROUND, AND THAT'S WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE TUTORS ARE IN PLACE BY COLLEGE STUDENTS BECAUSE THERE'S LESS PAY, AND YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE TUTORS ARE IN PLACE, LIKE I SAID, AND DO THE WORK.
YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THE WORK.
HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AND MAKE SURE.
[INAUDIBLE], FOLLOWED BY TEDDY KIM WITH ROSEMARY [INAUDIBLE] AND JAMES PERKINS ON DECK.
I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OF THE BOARD TO ALLOW ME TO BE HERE TO SPEAK FOR MY AGENDA IS EXACTLY WHAT I BROUGHT UP BACK IN OCTOBER. IT'S ABOUT MORE MONEY FOR OUR OFFICERS, OUR TAS CUSTODIANS, CAFETERIA PERSONNEL.
I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT FIVE, $10 RAISE.
I'M TALKING ABOUT GIVE THEM WHAT THEY'RE WORTH.
BECAUSE LIKE THE TAS, WHEN THE TEACHERS ARE NOT IN THERE, THEY TAKE OVER.
THEY DO THE JOB THAT A TEACHER DOES, AND THEY REALLY DESERVE MORE MONEY ON A SECOND ORDEAL.
NURSES, WE DO NEED BACKUP NURSES AT THE SCHOOLS RIGHT NOW.
SO MAYBE WE CAN HAVE A COUPLE OF OTHERS THAT CAN GO AROUND TO THE SCHOOLS TO COVER.
JUST SOMETHING FOR Y'ALL TO THINK ABOUT, THEN ALSO.
WE ACTUALLY ARE USING A COMPANY THAT'S IN CALIFORNIA THAT HANDLES THE CROSSING GUARDS ARE CROSSING GUARDS ARE ONLY THERE FOR 2 HOURS FROM 715 TO 815, AND THEN FROM 3:00 IN THE AFTERNOON TO FOUR, THERE'S NOBODY THERE AFTER 4:00.
WE HAVE KIDS COMING IN LATE IN THE MORNING TIME, SO WE NEED TO ACTUALLY HAVE THEM THERE.
SO THEY WERE BASICALLY STEALING TIME, AND YET WE'RE STILL BEING CHARGED FOR IT.
FOR ANOTHER THING, PLEASE THINK ABOUT, I KNOW WHEN Y'ALL GET READY TO DO THE BOND AGAIN, AN OFFICER FOR EVERY 500 STUDENTS RIGHT NOW, THERE IS NOT ONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THAT HAS 1000 STUDENTS.
IT IS SET AT ONE OFFICER PER 1000 STUDENTS.
[00:45:03]
SO LET'S THINK ABOUT GETTING IT DOWN, BECAUSE I KNOW BEFORE COVID THEY WAS WORKING ON IT.WHEN COVID HIT, IT JUST DISAPPEARED.
SO PLEASE THINK ABOUT THAT TOO, AND JUST SO YOU KNOW, BECAUSE I DID A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS, I KNOW THREE OF YOU ARE COMING UP FOR REELECTION IN 2023.
THREE OF YOU ARE COMING UP IN REELECTION IN 2024 AND THEN 2025.
OUR PARENTS, MYSELF, I HAVE THREE CHILDREN AT THE SCHOOL.
I'M ALSO ON THE PARENT ADVISORY BOARD.
I'M ALSO THE MASCOT, BUT, BUT PLEASE THINK ABOUT WHAT? WHAT I JUST BROUGHT UP TO YOU.
HI. THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO SPEAK.
I AM TEDDY KIM FROM THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH FELLOWSHIP.
I WANTED TO SPEAK TO YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOMETHING THAT I THINK IS A LITTLE BIT MISSING IN SOME OF THE SCHOOLS TODAY, BECAUSE THE YOUNG PEOPLE WE FIND THERE ARE MANY BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS THAT WE SEE ARE RISING, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PANDEMIC.
SO WE ARE A YOUTH ORGANIZATION THAT IS DEDICATED TO DEVELOPING YOUNG LEADERS, AND WE BELIEVE WE IF WE CAN ATTACK THE PROBLEM AT THE HEART, AT THE MINDSET, THEN WE BELIEVE THAT A LOT OF YOUTHS CAN CHANGE SO WE DON'T HAVE TO SEND THEM TO MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELORS AFTER THEY HAVE A BIG INCIDENT OR WE DON'T HAVE TO SEND THEM TO THE POLICE OFFICERS WHEN THEY CREATE A BIG PROBLEM.
RATHER, WE CAN TREAT THEM AT THE HEART AT THE VERY BEGINNING WHEN THEY CAN HAVE A HEALTHY HEART.
ACTUALLY, WE BELIEVE THAT THE HEART IS KIND OF LIKE A BLUEPRINT.
ONCE YOU HAVE A CORRECTLY DRAWN BLUEPRINT, THE HOUSE WILL ALSO BECOME BUILT CORRECTLY.
SO I THINK THAT WE DEVELOPED A CURRICULUM CALLED THE MIND EDUCATION, AND IT IS VERY SIMPLE.
IT'S VERY, VERY WELL DIGESTIBLE.
WE'RE ACTUALLY HAVING A WORKSHOP AT THE END OF THE YEAR ON THE 25TH.
THAT'S CHRISTMAS NIGHT ON THE 25TH TO THE 29TH AT THE HYATT REGENCY AT THE DFW AIRPORT.
SO I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMEBODY FROM DALLAS REPRESENTING THE ISD TO COME AND JOIN US.
WE REALLY THINK IT'S A VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ROSEMARY [INAUDIBLE], FOLLOWED BY JAMES PERKINS WITH NICK [INAUDIBLE] AND LUIS FUENTES ON DECK. ROSEMARY [INAUDIBLE] NOT PRESENT.
JAMES PERKINS, FOLLOWED BY NICK [INAUDIBLE] WITH LUIS FUENTES AND SHEILA WALKER ON DECK.
I'M HERE TO REQUEST YOUR SUPPORT AND REQUEST THAT YOU ALL WORK DILIGENTLY AND IN EARNEST WITH DALLAS CITY COUNCIL AND WITH DART BOARD MEMBERS IN ORDER TO PASS A PROGRAM GIVING FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO STUDENTS K THROUGH 12, BECAUSE BEING POOR SUCKS AND GROWING UP POOR IS THE WORST. NOT HAVING ANY CLEAN CLOTHES, THE CLOTHES YOU DO HAVE IS TATTERED, RIPPED, FADED, DOESN'T FIT YOU.
ALL THE KIDS ARE LAUGHING AT YOU, PICKING ON YOU.
YOU'RE FREEZING IN THE WINTER BECAUSE THERE'S NOT ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY THE BILLS.
HAVING TO WORK AND GO TO SCHOOL AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR YOUNGER SIBLINGS, HAVING TO BEG AND BORROW JUST TO GET BY NOT BEING ABLE TO GO ANYWHERE BECAUSE GAS ISN'T CHEAP AND THE CAR ISN'T RUNNING AND WE DON'T GOT ENOUGH MONEY FOR BUS PASSES.
IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN POOR, YOU KNOW THE FEELING.
IT FEELS LIKE IT'S YOUR FAULT.
YOU'RE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF, YOU'RE EMBARRASSED ALL THE TIME, BUT IF THERE'S ANYTHING I'VE GAINED FROM BEING POOR, IS THAT OUT OF NECESSITY, IT'S MADE ME PRETTY GOOD AT PROBLEM SOLVING.
HOW BEANS AND RICE ARE CHEAP AND FILLING MEALS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO BED HUNGRY.
I LEARNED TO SEW, PATCH UP, TAKE CARE OF YOUR CLOTHES SO IT DOESN'T GET RUINED.
[00:50:03]
SO AS PART OF SUNRISE MOVEMENT DALLAS, I'VE BEEN HELPING AND EMAILING Y'ALL IN ORDER TO GET YOU ALL TO SIGN ON TO OUR PLEDGE TO BRING ABOUT FREE DART FOR STUDENTS K THROUGH 12.WE WANT THEM TO GROW AND LEARN AND BE HEALTHY AND HAVE ALL THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO THEM IN ORDER FOR THEM TO GET AHEAD SO THAT THEY CAN BE AMAZING, OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUALS LIVING AMAZING LIVES, ACHIEVING THEIR DREAMS. WHICH IS WHY I WANT TO INVITE ALL OF THE BOARD MEMBERS TO SIGN OUR PLEDGE, AND IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH OUR PLEDGE, LET'S COMMUNICATE.
LIKE I SAID, I'M A GREAT PROBLEM SOLVER.
IT'S ALSO BEEN SHOWN THAT STUDENTS THAT HAVE ACCESS TO FREE PUBLIC TRANSIT DO WAY BETTER IN SCHOOLS.
THEY ATTEND CLASS MORE OFTEN, THEY HAVE THE MEANS TO GO TO EXTRACURRICULARS AND ACHIEVE SUCCESS THROUGH THOSE ACTIVITIES AND UNLOCKING THE ABILITY TO EXPLORE OUR BEAUTIFUL CITY IS ONLY GOING TO HELP THE STUDENTS GROW AND LIVE HEALTHY, SUCCESSFUL LIVES AND ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS. THANK YOU. NICK [INAUDIBLE], FOLLOWED BY LUIS FUENTES WITH SHEILA WALKER AND GEORGE RANGEL ON DECK.
LUIS FUENTES, FOLLOWED BY SHEILA WALKER WITH JORGE RANGEL AND RINA [INAUDIBLE] ON DECK.
OH, THERE HE IS. OK CAN'T SEE.
JUST A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON ME.
I LIVED IN A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER FOR A YEAR OF MY LIFE.
MY ONLY SAVING GRACE WAS GOING TO SCHOOL AND HAVING THAT FREE LUNCH THAT WAS OFFERED BY THE COUNTY.
NOT ONLY THAT, BUT ONE OF THE HARDEST THINGS WAS NOT BEING ABLE TO BE INVOLVED IN AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, AFTER SCHOOL EXTRACURRICULARS, VOLUNTEER EVENTS THAT WERE REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION AS WELL AS AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING EVENTS BECAUSE MY MOTHER DID NOT HAVE A CAR IN ORDER TO GET US OUT TO THE SCHOOL OR IN OUR COMMUNITY.
NOW, OVER IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, THEY HAD FREE STUDENT TRANSIT FOR ALL STUDENTS K THROUGH 12, AS WELL AS COLLEGE STUDENTS, AND IT REALLY HELPED ME TO GET INVOLVED WITH NOT ONLY EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES SUCH AS OUR THEATER DEPARTMENT GETTING INVOLVED WITH CROSS COUNTRY AND SPORTING, BUT ALSO WITH GETTING INVOLVED IN MY COMMUNITY, GETTING INVOLVED IN COMMUNITY EVENTS, VOLUNTEERING, HELPING HOMELESSNESS, VOLUNTEERING WITH FOOD BANKS AND VOLUNTEERING WITH CLEAN GREEN ENERGY PROJECTS, AND THIS IS WHAT IS ABLE TO HAPPEN WHEN YOU PROVIDE FREE DART FOR OUR STUDENTS HERE, OUR DART TRANSIT SYSTEM, THEY'RE ABLE TO NOT ONLY ATTEND SCHOOL IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO GET TO SCHOOL, IF THEIR PARENTS ARE SICK, THEY'RE RUNNING LATE, BUT GOING BACK TO ME, I RECENTLY MOVED TO TEXAS AFTER MY FIRST YEAR OF COLLEGE AND I CAN'T COUNT THE AMOUNT OF DAYS I WASN'T ABLE TO ATTEND SEMINARS DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD TO GET ON THE BUS.
I MEAN, I KNOW YOU THINK IT'S ONLY, $1.40, BUT I MEAN, WHEN YOU'RE POOR, YOU DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY IN YOUR SCROUNGING AROUND THE HOUSE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO EVEN GET A CAR TO GET A JOB TO MAKE MONEY.
YOU'RE JUST SITTING AT HOME AND PRAYING THAT YOUR TEACHERS ARE DOING ONLINE LESSONS OVER ZOOM, WHICH HAS BEEN GREAT FOR THAT REASON, BUT AGAIN, THAT DOESN'T ADDRESS THE CONCERN OF GETTING INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY, EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, TUTORING PROGRAMS AND SUCH THAT IS OFFERED IN PERSON AND THAT CONNECTION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
SO I PLEASE IMPLORE THAT YOU CHECK YOUR EMAILS AS WE WILL BE SENDING PLEDGES OUT TO YOU AND WHAT IT ENTAILS AND TO FREE DART FOR STUDENTS K THROUGH 12 AND WORK WITH US, WORK WITH THE DART BOARD, WORK WITH THE DALLAS CITY COUNCIL TO FIGURE OUT HOW WE CAN FUND THIS.
THAT IS THE BARE BONES OF A GROWING AND SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY.
SO I HOPE THAT YOU WILL PLEASE LISTEN TO US, SEEK OUT THE INFORMATION, CHECK YOUR EMAILS.
AS I SAID, WE'LL BE SENDING YOU PLEDGES AND I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME IN THIS MATTER.
THANK YOU. SHEILA WALKER, FOLLOWED BY GEORGE RANGEL AND RENA HONEA ON DECK.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD. SUPERINTENDENT.I'M SHEILA WALKER, PRESIDENT OF NEA DALLAS.
TODAY I'M SPEAKING AGAIN ON RESPECT OR THE LACK THEREOF IN THE DISTRICT, BUT WHEN I CALLED YESTERDAY, I DID GET A CALL TODAY FROM DEDRA BELL-HUNTER, AND SO WE'RE GOING TO WORK SOME THINGS OUT ABOUT THIS DISRESPECT THAT WE'RE HAVING IN THE DISTRICT WHEN MEMBERS ARE CALLING ABOUT PEOPLE, YOU KNOW, TALKING ABOUT THEIR CHARACTER OR DISRESPECTING THEM ABOUT THEIR CHARACTER OR DIFFERENT THINGS, AND THEN WE HAVE MEN SUPERVISORS THAT ARE DEMEANING WOMEN BUS DRIVERS BECAUSE THEY'RE WOMEN AND TALKING TO THEM LIKE THEY'RE NOTHING.
ALL OF OUR WORKERS ARE IMPORTANT.
I HEARD I THINK JUSTIN WAS TALKING ABOUT OUR TRANSPORTATION WORKERS.
WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT THE TRANSPORTATION WORKERS, AND I AM SICK AND TIRED OF COMING HERE MONTH AFTER MONTH TALKING ABOUT HOW OUR TRANSPORTATION WORKERS ARE BEING TREATED.
IT IS SO UNFAIR THAT THEY'RE BEING TREATED LIKE THEY'RE NOBODY.
NO, THEY'RE NOT JUST THE DRIVER.
THEY'RE THE FIRST TEACHERS THAT OUR STUDENTS SEE.
WE ARE ALL. MOST OF US ARE PRODUCTS OF PUBLIC EDUCATION.
EVERYBODY IN THIS ROOM IS HERE FOR ONE PURPOSE, AND THAT IS THESE STUDENTS.
IF WE CAN'T COME TO WORK FEELING SAFE, FEELING LIKE SOMEONE IS GOING TO MISTREAT US OR SAY ANYTHING BAD TO US AND CAUSE US TO ACT A CERTAIN WAY, THEN WE DON'T NEED TO BE IN EDUCATION.
SO PLEASE RESPECT US AND KNOW THAT WE'RE RESPECTED.
WE'RE WORKING ON SOMETHING WITH THE DISTRICT.
THE LEADERSHIP IS WORKING ON SOMETHING WITH NEA DALLAS ABOUT DUE PROCESS FOR SUPPORT EMPLOYEES.
THANK YOU. GEORGE RANGEL, FOLLOWED BY RINA HONEA.
I'M ADDRESSING THE LACK OF RESPECT FOR DISTRICT EMPLOYEES.
A CONTRIBUTING REASON WAS LOW SALARIES, BUT EQUALLY IMPORTANT FOR OTHERS WAS THE LACK OF RESPECT.
SADLY, OUR EMPLOYEES HERE IN DALLAS ISD CONTINUE ALERTING TOP ADMINISTRATION AT AN INCREASING RATE, THE LACK OF RESPECT TOWARDS THEM AND THEIR RIGHTS IN THEIR WORKPLACE AND IT CONTINUES TO FALL ON DEAF EARS.
SO WHICH IS IT? WE'RE ALSO SEEING AN INCREASE IN TEACHERS BEING VOLUNTOLD THEY NEED TO STAY EXTRA HOURS AFTER SCHOOL ON THEIR OWN TIME.
THEY ARE BRAZENLY TOLD IF THEY DON'T, IT'LL BE DULY NOTED ON THEIR TEI EVALUATION IN DOMAIN FOUR.
THEY'RE ALSO BEING HELD HOSTAGE.
THEY'RE TOLD GIVING UP YOUR PLANNING TIME, GIVE IT UP OR YOU'LL STAY LATE AFTER SCHOOL OR A TEN THREE MEETINGS AFTER SCHOOL THIS WEEK, OR IT'LL HURT YOUR EVALUATION.
THE TONE OF VOICE USED BEING SKIPPED OVER FOR PROMOTIONS OR ASSIGNMENTS, NOT HAVING ADEQUATE SUPPLIES FOR THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES ALL CONTRIBUTE TO THE LACK OF RESPECT.
[01:00:02]
REPRIMANDED. ADMINISTRATORS KNOWINGLY VIOLATING STATE LAW NEED TO BE SERIOUSLY REPRIMANDED, AND ADMINISTRATORS VIOLATING THE EDUCATOR'S CODE OF ETHICS NEED TO BE SERIOUSLY REPRIMANDED.ON ANOTHER NOTE, WE NEED TO SERIOUSLY REWORK THE CLIMATE SURVEY.
SOME ADMINISTRATORS ARE RUNNING MOCK SURVEYS TO PREVIEW SCORES.
SOME ARE SHARING POWERPOINTS ON HOW THE SURVEY SHOULD BE FILLED OUT, AND SOME ARE TELLING EDUCATORS A LOW CLIMATE SURVEY WILL HURT THEIR EVALUATION, WHICH AFFECTS THEIR SALARY.
RESPECT IS NEEDED BY EVERYONE.
CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE OF VALUING THE EMPLOYEES THAT KEEPS THIS DISTRICT GOING.
THEY DESERVE IT, RESPECT US OR EXPECT US, AND WE WILL BE WORKING WITH THE ADMINISTRATION AS WELL.
MS. HONEA, YOUR TIME HAS EXPIRED.
THANK YOU. PRESIDENT HENRY, THIS CONCLUDES OUR SPEAKERS.
