THE FOLLOWING TRUSTEES ARE EITHER PHYSICALLY PRESENT OR PARTICIPATING SIMULTANEOUSLY VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE.

A QUORUM OF THE BOARD IS PHYSICALLY PRESENT AT THIS LOCATION.

THIS MEETING WILL BE AVAILABLE SIMULTANEOUSLY IN SPANISH ON SOCIAL MEDIA, THROUGH DALLAS ISD AND ESPANOL, AND ON FACEBOOK THROUGH THE DISTRICT'S WEBSITE.

EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT, EFFECTIVE JANUARY.

SORRY EFFECTIVE TODAY, JANUARY 11TH THROUGH JANUARY JUNE 30TH, 2028.

SO I'D LIKE TO START OUT BY SAYING THAT MY STATEMENTS ARE NOT GOING TO BE NEGATIVE TOWARD THE SUPERINTENDENT, BUT NEGATIVE TOWARD A PROCESS.

I THINK THIS WAS A RUSHED PROCESS.

I THINK THIS IS A, SOMETHING THAT IS OF HIGH PUBLIC INTEREST AND THE NERVE OF THIS BOARD TO VOTE ON IT ON A BOARD BRIEFING DAY, NOT ALLOWING THE PUBLIC TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO WEIGH IN IS, I BELIEVE, DISRESPECTFUL? I THINK THAT WE HAD THE TIME TO ACTUALLY, GO THROUGH THE SUPERINTENDENT'S CONTRACT, COMPLETELY, AND BE ABLE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE DOING ALL THE RIGHT THINGS.

NOW, I AM A ONE TRUSTEE, AND IT IS CLEAR TO ME THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE TRUSTEES ON THIS BOARD DON'T FEEL THE SAME WAY THAT I DO.

BUT I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A CONSISTENT VOICE FOR THE COMMUNITY AND A CONSISTENT VOICE FOR THE COMMUNITY TO WEIGH IN ON IMPORTANT ISSUES. THIS IS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE RIGHT PROCESS.

SO I WILL BE ABSTAINING FROM THE VOTE AND HOPE THAT THIS BOARD CAN DO A BETTER JOB OF MAKING SURE, THAT WE INVOLVE THE PUBLIC WHEN WE HAVE SOMETHING OF SUCH HIGH PUBLIC INTEREST.

BEFORE I MAKE ANY COMMENTS, CAN YOU PLEASE, PRESIDENT HENRY, REPEAT THE MOTION, PLEASE.

THE MOTION IS TO APPROVE THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT EFFECTIVE JANUARY 11TH, 2024 TO JUNE 30TH, 2028.

WELL, FIRST OF ALL.

I DO HAVE SOME RESERVE WHEN IT COMES TO THIS.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT'S PERFORMANCE.

I DID HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH HER.

I'M GLAD I DID.

AND IT'S MORE PROCEDURE VERSUS ANYTHING.

I'M GLAD THAT I WAS ABLE TO, LIKE I SAID, SPEAK WITH HER AND GET SOME OF MY CONCERNS ANSWERED.

ONE OF MY CONCERNS WAS THE FACT THAT EVERY ACHIEVEMENT GOAL, AS FAR AS STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT, HASN'T BEEN MET, AND I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ANY INCREASE AS FAR AS HER SALARY IS CONCERNED.

I WOULD MY PROBLEM WAS MORE OR LESS WITH THE AMOUNT OF THE EXTENSION OF THE CONTRACT. AND LIKE I TOLD HER, I'M GLAD SHE'S HERE.

I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM, LIKE I SAID, WITH WHAT SHE'S DOING IS IT'S THE FACT THAT I JUST FELT THE AMOUNT OF TERM THAT WAS BEING REQUESTED, AND I ALSO WANT TO MENTION I AM OF COURSE NEW TO THE BOARD.

I AM STILL LEARNING, SO I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THAT THIS CONTRACT CAME OUT OF OUR COMMITTEE.

THE CONTRACT DID NOT, THE CONTRACT REQUEST CAME OUT OF OUR COMMITTEE.

IT DID NOT COME OUT OF OUR COMMITTEE.

THE SUPERINTENDENT MADE THE REQUEST, FOR THIS CONTRACT CHANGE.

AND SHE GAVE ME HER REASONS, WHICH WE WERE ON TWO DIFFERENT SPECTRUMS AS FAR AS HER THINKING AND MY THINKING, I UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE SAID.

BUT I AM ALSO HOLDING TO WHAT I BELIEVE IS CORRECT AND IF THERE WERE A CHANGE TO THE TERM, I WOULD DEFINITELY BE SUPPORTING THIS CONTRACT.

BUT AT THIS CURRENT TIME I WILL NOT BE SUPPORTING THE CONTRACT.

AND I HAVE EXPLAINED MY REASONS TO THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THAT IS HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT.

YES. I HAD SHARED SOME CONCERNS THAT I'VE HAD WITH THE WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT, AND THIS BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT HAS ADDRESSED A LOT OF MY CONCERNS, SINCE I'VE BEEN ON THIS BOARD AS A CHIEF OF SCHOOL AND IN HER CURRENT ROLE AS A SUPERINTENDENT.

ALSO, WHEN I LOOKED AT, DOCTOR HINOJOSA, HER PREDECESSOR, THE FORMER SUPERINTENDENT OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, WHEN WE DID THE EVALUATION, I BELIEVE IT WAS SEPTEMBER, THE 26, 2019, WHEN WE DID HIS EVALUATION, WE ALSO DID THE CONTRACT AT THAT SAID TIME.

IS THAT CORRECT TRUSTEE HENRY? THE EVALUATION PART, I'M NOT SURE, BUT WE EXTENDED HIS CONTRACT SEPTEMBER 26TH, 2019, AND I KIND OF REMEMBER THAT BECAUSE I WAS PRETTY MUCH NEW ON THE BOARD.

AND THAT WAS A, IMPORTANT DECISION.

MY ONE OF THE FIRST IMPORTANT DECISIONS THAT I HAD TO MAKE.

ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN YOU'RE HAVE A WHAT I WOULD CALL A STELLAR SUPERINTENDENT THAT WE HAVE HERE THAT HAS DONE THE WORK AND IS DOING THE WORK.

AND BEING IN LEADERSHIP ROLE, WE DON'T AGREE ON EVERY ISSUE.

I DON'T AGREE WITH MYSELF ALL THE TIME, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO THROW MYSELF OUT THE WINDOW.

I'M GONNA KEEP CHIPPING AT AND GETTING IT RIGHT, YOU KNOW.

SO I'M GOING TO SUPPORT IT.

I'M GOING TO SUPPORT HER. AND I'M NOT SAYING NO ONE ELSE IS NOT SUPPORTING HER.

THAT'S NOT WHAT I THINK THE TRUSTEE FORMAN AND TRUSTEE WHITE IS SAYING, THEY MADE IT CLEAR THAT THEY SUPPORT HER.

THEY DON'T SUPPORT THIS PROCESS.

BUT I DO BELIEVE THAT THE PROCESS WAS POSTED AND WE DISCUSSED THIS, IN DECEMBER.

AND SO I THINK IT'S BEEN OUT FOR OVER FOR A PRETTY GOOD WHILE.

I KNOW I SPOKE WITH MEMBERS OF MY COMMUNITY, SO THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROCESS.

OF COURSE, A LOT OF THEM COULD NOT BE HERE TO, SEE IT HAPPEN BECAUSE A LOT OF THEM ARE WORKING.

BUT THAT'S WHY THEY ELECTED A TRUSTEE TO IN DISTRICT FIVE, TO HEAR THEIR VOICE AND HEAR THEIR CONCERNS AND VOTE ON THAT MATTER.

SO I THINK I'M IN MY HEART.

I'M DOING WHAT I WAS ELECTED TO DO.

AND THIS IS WHAT WE DO.

WE HIRED A SUPERINTENDENT THAT'S PART OF THE TRUSTEE JOB.

SO THEY'RE EXPECTING ME TO DO MY JOB WHEN THEY CAN BE HERE, WHEN THEY CAN'T.

AND SO I WILL BE DEFINITELY SUPPORTING THIS PROCESS.

I THINK THE PROCESS WAS A FAIR PROCESS.

AND, LONG ENOUGH WHERE WE COULD HAVE DISCUSSIONS AND WE'VE DONE THAT.

WE HAVE DONE THAT. SO I WILL BE SUPPORTING THE PROCESS TODAY.

BECAUSE BECAUSE I WANT TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR ON MY POSITION.

THE CONVERSATIONS THAT THE BOARD HAD ABOUT THE PROCESS WAS TO COME BACK WITH DIFFERENT RECOMMENDATIONS.

TRUSTEE WHITE IS CORRECT, WE DID NOT LOOK AT THE ENTIRE CONTRACT.

WE LOOKED AT THE PORTION THAT THE SUPERINTENDENT FELT SHE NEEDED TO CHANGE.

I'M NOT AGAINST THE SUPERINTENDENT BRINGING THINGS FORWARD, BUT I WAS ELECTED AS A TRUSTEE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS, AND I DON'T SPEAK FOR MY ENTIRE DISTRICT.

THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO FEEL CLEAR THAT THEY CAN SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

SO YES, I WAS ELECTED, BUT THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE IN MY DISTRICT THAT WANT TO BE ABLE TO SPEAK WHEN THEY NEED TO SPEAK, AND I'M NOT GOING TO DEBATE THE ISSUE.

BUT WHAT I WILL SAY IS, IS THAT, I AM TROUBLED BY THE PROCESS.

ALL RIGHT. FIRST, OH.

YEAH. SO FIRST, THIS BOARD, IT'S REALLY FOCUSED ON THE RIGHT THINGS FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

AND I THINK THAT GIVES YOU THE ENVIRONMENT, DOCTOR ELIZADE AND YOUR STAFF, TO SUCCEED AND DO WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

I RESPECT EVERY PERSON'S OPINION ON THIS BOARD, I ALWAYS HAVE.

THAT'S BEEN THE WAY I'VE TRIED TO LEAD THIS BOARD, THE YEARS THAT I WAS BOARD CHAIR WAS TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE'S VOICE WAS HEARD.

TO NOT MARGINALIZE ANYONE, TO NOT CUT OFF ANYONE.

AND I HOPE YOU'VE SEEN THAT FROM THIS PERSPECTIVE.

SO I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DEFEND WHO I AM AND WHO I'VE BEEN FOR A VERY LONG TIME SINCE I'VE BEEN ON THIS BOARD.

SO, AS FAR AS THE PROCESS, AS MY COLLEAGUE TRUSTEE JOHNSON SAID, YOU KNOW, WE DO THE SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATION IN THE FALL. I'VE SAT ON THE BOARD FOR THIS TYPE OF EXTENSION ONCE BEFORE WITH DOCTOR HINOJOSA, AND WE FINALIZED HIS EXTENSION SEPTEMBER 26TH, 2019.

I THINK DOCTOR ELIZADE, AS I'VE SAID TO YOU PERSONALLY AND PUBLICLY, HAS DONE A GREAT JOB AS A LEADER OF THIS DISTRICT.

AND FOR ME, TO BE IN JANUARY AND NOT HAVE, PAPER THAT, AS WE'D SAY IN THE LEGAL WORLD, TO MAKE SURE SHE KNOWS THAT AND NOT JUST WORDS, BUT IN WRITING.

THAT'S IMPORTANT TO ME.

AND IT'S JUST MY INDIVIDUAL OPINION, SO WHEN WE SAY TIMING OF THIS, I ACTUALLY THINK WE'RE BEHIND TIME.

I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS ALREADY.

AND THAT'S MY PARTICULAR POSITION.

I WANT TO BE CLEAR, I'M NEVER MY INTENT IS NEVER TO BE DISRESPECTFUL TO ANYONE ON THIS BOARD AT ANY POINT, WE TRIED TO SCHEDULE THIS.

WE'VE HAD DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THIS.

WE DID HAVE THE SCHEDULE AT A BOARD MEETING, TO GIVE, IT'S AT NIGHT.

IF SPEAKERS WANTED TO COME, THEY WAS GOING TO GIVE THE MOST OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO COME AND VOICE THEIR OWN OPINIONS.

I MOVED THAT DATE TO JANUARY FOR EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES, SO, REALLY WANTED TO MAKE IT AS INCLUSIVE OF A PROCESS AS POSSIBLE. BUT RECOGNIZING THAT, I THINK THIS SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE.

IN REGARDING I DON'T LIKE THE SUPERINTENDENT MADE THE REQUEST, BUT IT'S OUR DECISION AS A BOARD WHETHER WE HIRE OR FIRE WHAT WE PAY HER, WHAT HER TERM IS, THAT'S ON US.

SO I THINK WE DID I DID HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT AND, I THINK THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD BE.

AS A LEADER OF A DISTRICT THIS SIZE, I'M JUST GOING TO BE FRANK AND TRANSPARENT, IF YOU DON'T MIND.

GOING INTO A SUMMER WHERE YOU ONLY HAVE A YEAR LEFT IN YOUR AGREEMENT AND YOU'RE COACHING, MAN.

I MEAN, IF YOU'RE A COACH OR A PLAYER, YOU'RE IN A TRANSFER PORTAL.

LIKE, IF YOU'RE GOING INTO THE SUMMER BEFORE YOUR LAST YEAR AND YOU DON'T KNOW HOW YOUR EMPLOYEES FEEL ABOUT YOU EXPLICITLY IN PAPER AND WILLING TO WRITE THAT AND SHOW SOME SORT OF COMMITMENT TO THAT, I THINK THAT CREATES TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY FOR A LEADER.

I THINK IT CREATES TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY FOR A SYSTEM.

I THINK IT'S PROBLEMATIC, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE A GREAT LEADER.

I THINK FROM MY PERSONAL OPINION, YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN THAT.

AND THAT'S WHY I WANT TO HAVE THAT DECISION MADE TODAY.

AND THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION.

EVERYONE HAS THEIR UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE.

SO THE PROCESS, YOU KNOW, IF PEOPLE HAVE ISSUES WITH THE PROCESS, THAT'S ON ME AS THE CHAIR OF THIS BOARD, I'LL TAKE THAT.

COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.

WON'T BE THE FIRST OR LAST MISTAKE I MAKE.

BUT I DO THINK IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

AND I'M GOING BACK TO THE FUNERAL ATTENDANT.

THERE'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

IT'S PROBABLY THE THE BEST ROUTE TO GO.

THE SECOND ROUTE IS THE WORST THING TO DO.

BUT I THINK THE THIRD, THING THAT I'VE NEVER BEEN FINE WITH DOING IS DOING NOTHING.

SO TODAY WE'RE GOING TO DO SOMETHING ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

I FIRST WANT TO JUST THANK YOU, AS THE PRESIDENT, FOR BRINGING THIS TO THE BOARD TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION, RECOGNIZING ALL THE DIFFERENT VIEWPOINTS.

I AM IN FULL SUPPORT OF DOCTOR ELIZADE.

I THINK YOU HAVE COME IN AND IN THIS LAST TWO YEARS, DONE A MASTERFUL JOB MAKING SOME VERY TOUGH CHOICES.

AND I KNOW SINCE WE JUST ADOPTED YOUR SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATION FROM LAST SCHOOL YEAR, WHILE IT IS TRUE THAT THREE OF THE FIVE GOALS WERE HIT, TWO THINGS ON THIS IS I WANT TO REMIND EVERYONE, IN THE PUBLIC ESPECIALLY IS THAT OUT OF THOSE FIVE GOALS, THOUGH, THIS BOARD MADE AN INTENTIONAL CHOICE NOT TO CHANGE THE TARGETS THE GOAL LINE, EVEN DURING THE MIDST OF A PANDEMIC.

AND EVEN THOUGH YOU MET THREE OF THE FIVE REALLY HIGH BARS WE LEFT, ALL FIVE OF THOSE METRICS IMPROVED.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THE CONSTRAINTS, THOSE VALUES THAT WE HOLD DEAR, THAT WE CODIFIED IN THIS, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IMPROVED OR STAYED EXACTLY THE SAME, MOST OF WHICH THAT STAYED THE SAME. YOU COULDN'T HAVE, DONE BETTER IF YOU TRIED.

AND SO I, I APPRECIATE THE WORK YOU HAVE DONE.

I THINK IT IS A TESTAMENT, THAT EVERYONE THAT'S SPOKEN ON THIS, REGARDLESS OF CONCERNS OF THE PROCESS AND, AND WHERE PEOPLE FEEL AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO FEEL EXACTLY HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT THIS.

I ALSO HAVEN'T HEARD ANYONE EXPRESS A LACK OF CONFIDENCE IN YOU, AND I THINK THAT IS A MAJOR TESTAMENT TO THE WORK AND THE LEADERSHIP THAT YOU'VE DONE.

AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SUPPORTING THIS EXTENSION AND SENDING A SIGNAL TO OUR COMMUNITY THAT YOU ARE THE RIGHT LEADER FOR DALLAS ISD, AND WE STAND BEHIND YOU AND THE WORK THAT'S GOING FORWARD AND THE PROGRESS WE'RE ON.

AND SO I JUST AGAIN, WANT TO THANK YOU, SUPERINTENDENT ELIZALDE, FOR YOUR WORK.

AND YOU, PRESIDENT HENRY, FOR FOR BRINGING THIS TO THE BOARD TO DISCUSS AS A COLLECTIVE.

TRUSTEE WHITE. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO JUST ALSO MENTION, AND, THE KEY WORDS THAT I HEARD MENTIONED WITHIN THIS LAST CONVERSATION THAT WAS MADE, WHICH WAS TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY, WHICH WAS MENTIONED BY TRUSTEE HENRY. AND NO ONE EXPRESSES A LACK OF CONFIDENCE, WHICH WAS MENTIONED BY TRUSTEE MACKEY JUST THEN.

ONCE AGAIN, WE KNOW THE HISTORY THAT HAS PRECEDED DISD WHEN IT COMES TO LEADERSHIP.

WE UNDERSTAND THAT A STABLE, HEALTHY, THRIVING DISTRICT AS FAR AS THE BOARD IS CONCERNED, EVERYONE, GETTING ALONG AND MAKING SURE WE'RE DOING WHAT'S BEST FOR OUR PRODUCT, WHICH IS OUR STUDENTS, TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS, THAT THEY ARE LEARNING, THAT THEY ARE CAREER READY.

WE UNDERSTAND THAT.

AND THAT'S WHAT WE LOOK FOR TO HAVE LEADERSHIP TO DO.

AND I'M GOING TO MENTION SOMETHING THAT THE SUPERINTENDENT MENTIONED TO ME, WHICH WAS YES, COVID DID HAPPEN, BUT WE CAN'T KEEP SAYING THIS IS DUE TO COVID.

WE HAVE TO MOVE ON.

WE HAVE NO CHOICE.

TRUSTEE MACKEY IN HIS STATEMENT, SAID THAT THIS BOARD DURING COVID, KEPT THE AGGRESSIVENESS OF THE AGGRESSION AND THE FIRMNESS OF OUR GOALS IN PLACE EVEN DURING COVID.

WE WEREN'T CONCERNED ABOUT OTHER IN SCHOOL DISTRICT WHAT THEY WAS DOING.

WE WAS FOCUSED ON WHAT WE NEEDED TO BE FOCUSED ON IN DALLAS ISD AS A SCHOOL BOARD.

AND SO TO SEEK GROWTH, ACROSS THE BOARD, AND I'LL MEET THREE OF THE FIVE IS A TREMENDOUS, ACCOMPLISHMENT BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW WHAT COVID DID TO THE EDUCATIONAL WORLD NATIONWIDE.

AND TO SEE THE TREMENDOUS GROWTH UNDER THIS, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF DOCTOR ELIZALDE IS, EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY GREAT.

THERE WERE THREE THINGS THAT WE DO AS A BOARD.

HIRE, FIRE SUPERINTENDENT, APPROVE THE BUDGET THAT SHE BRINGS IN AND AND SET POLICY FOR THE POSITIVE STUDENT OUTCOME.

THIS IS WHAT WE'RE DOING IS A PART OF THAT.

IT COMES ALONG THE CONTRACT.

MY COMMUNITY WHEN THEY VOTED FOR ME, KNEW BECAUSE WE EDUCATED, I MADE SURE THAT THEY KNEW AFTER ATTENDING LEADERSHIP ISD, AND THE THINGS THAT WE DID, KNEW WHAT THIS BOARD WHAT A TRUSTEE JOB IS.

SO THERE ARE CERTAIN TIMES WHEN MY COMMUNITY IN DISTRICT FIVE SAID WE KNOW THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO BE THERE EVERY TIME THAT A DECISION NEEDS TO BE MADE.

SO WE TRUST YOUR DECISION.

THAT'S WHY WE ELECTED YOU AND YOU'RE DOING YOUR JOB.

SO I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SPEAK FOR EVERY SINGLE COMMUNITY MEMBER ON EVERY PARTICULAR SUBJECT MATTER.

BUT THEY EXPECT ME TO DO MY JOB AS AN ELECTED OFFICIAL, AS A TRUSTEE OF DISTRICT FIVE, AND THIS IS MY JOB.

SO I SPOKE WITH MY COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

I HAVE NOT SPOKEN WITH THE WHOLE DISTRICT FIVE.

BUT THEY UNDERSTAND AND THEY'RE AWARE OF WHAT'S GOING ON HERE.

SO I DON'T I WANT TO MAKE THAT CLEAR.

DOING WHAT I WAS ELECTED TO DO IS NOT ANY MEANS PUSHING THE VOICE OF MY COMMUNITY, AND NOT JUST WHEN I'M SAYING MY COMMUNITY.

I'M NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT ADULTS.

I'M TALKING ABOUT KIDS, TOO, BECAUSE I'VE DISCOVERED WHEN WE WAS DOING THE SOUTH OAK CLIFF PROTEST AND ALL THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE, KIDS HAVE A VOICE.

THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT WE THINK THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND.

THEY UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING RESOURCES TO HAVE A TREMENDOUS SUPERINTENDENT THAT WE HAVE, AND MAKING SURE WE HAVE PROPER LEADERSHIP IN OUR DISTRICT IS RESOURCES.

THAT'S A MAJOR RESOURCE.

SOMETIMES PEOPLE THINK RESOURCES IS COMPUTERS ONLY AND, OTHER, MATERIALISTIC THINGS.

NO, HAVING A GREAT LEADER IN FRONT OF KIDS IS A RESOURCE.

AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I RAN ON EQUITABLE RESOURCES.

AND SO I'M GOING TO SUPPORT THIS BECAUSE IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

MY KIDS WANT ME TO SUPPORT THIS BECAUSE THEY WANT GREAT LEADERSHIP SO WE CAN CONTINUE TO DO GREAT JOB IN DALLAS ISD.

MY PARENTS WANT ME TO DO MY JOB AS AN ELECTED OFFICIAL BECAUSE THEY TOO WANT GREAT RESOURCES.

A RESOURCE LIKE IN DOCTOR ELIZALDE TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE GETTING TOP NOTCH EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY TO, TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE.

SO IT IT GOES A LITTLE DEEPER AND I'M HEARING THE COMMENTS AND I WANT TO STATE THAT, THAT THIS IS NOT ME SAYING THAT'S THE TRUSTEE THAT I, I'M IGNORING THE VOICE OF THE COMMUNITY. BUT I'M ALSO SAYING MY COMMUNITY KNOWS THIS IS A PART OF MY JOB.

AND WHEN THEY CAN'T BE HERE AND WHEN I HAVE THOSE DISCUSSIONS WITH THEM, THEY UNDERSTAND THAT TRUSTEE JOHNSON HAS TO DO WHAT HE WAS ELECTED TO DO.

SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, I'M GOING TO SUPPORT THIS BECAUSE I DO NOT BELIEVE THE PROCESS WAS FAULTY AND I'M ONE THAT IF IF I DID BELIEVE IT, I'VE SAID IT BEFORE PUBLICLY.

IF IT WAS A FAULTY PROCESS, I WOULD SAY IT, AND I'VE BEEN KNOWN TO SAY IT.

THIS WAS NOT A FAULTY PROCESS.

THIS BOARD HAS BEEN FIRM AND AGGRESSIVE CONCERNING THE GOALS, AND WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO WHAT DO RIGHT BY KIDS.

AND THE FIRST STEP IS MAKING SURE THAT WE KEEP A STAR, FIVE STAR SUPERINTENDENT THAT'S DOING THE RIGHT THING AND HAS DONE GREAT IN DALLAS ISD.

DOCTOR ELIZALDE IS STABILITY AND SO MUCH MORE.

ORGANIZATIONS OF THIS SIZE NEED VISION.

DOCTOR ELIZALDE HAS OUTLINED HER VISION AND HAS GONE TO WORK, AND SHE HAS PROVIDED THAT FULLY FOR ME. THAT'S WHAT THIS VOTE IS.

FROM MY PERSPECTIVE, IT'S RATHER ROUTINE EXTENSION, OF A GREAT LEADER OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO GO BACKWARDS.

RIGHT.

WE'RE GOING FORWARD WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT WHO'S COMMITTED TO STUDENT OUTCOME GOALS AND HAS PROVEN AND SHOWN THE ABILITY WITH HER TEAM, TO IMPROVE THOSE STUDENT OUTCOMES.

SO THERE'S NOT A DAY THAT GOES BY THAT HAS GONE BY SINCE I VOTED ON THE INITIAL CONTRACT THAT I'VE EVER GONE TO BED AT NIGHT THANKING AND REGRETTING THAT DECISION.

IN FACT, EVERY DAY I GO TO BED, VERY CONFIDENT IN THE LEADER THAT WE HAVE IN DALLAS ISD.

AND SO I ENTHUSIASTICALLY SUPPORT THIS EXTENSION AND LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH DOCTOR ELIZALDE FOR YEARS TO COME.

I THINK SUPERINTENDENT ELIZALDE HAS DONE A TERRIFIC JOB.

NO ONE HAS SHOWN MORE COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION TO OUR STUDENTS, TO BEING INCLUSIVE AND TO RAISING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN DALLAS ISD.

I'VE KNOWN, DOCTOR ELIZALDE SINCE SINCE SHE WAS ON THE BOARD, SINCE I FIRST CAME ON THE BOARD AND SHE WAS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IN THE CONRAD FEEDER PATTERN.

AND I CAN TELL YOU FROM FROM DAY ONE, IN KNOWING HER, SHE IS THE MOST DEVOTED PERSON I HAVE EVER SEEN. AND THAT WHEN I FIRST GOT ON THE BOARD, ALMOST EVERY SCHOOL IN THE CONRAD FEEDER PATTERN WAS, ACADEMICALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

AND IN THE YEARS THAT SHE WAS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, EVERY ONE OF THOSE SCHOOLS CAME OUT OF THE ACADEMICALLY UNACCEPTABLE CATEGORY.

LATER, WHEN SHE BECAME THE CHIEF OF SCHOOL LEADERSHIP, HER DUTIES WERE OBVIOUSLY ENLARGED.

SHE KNOWS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR INITIATIVES INSIDE OUT.

PROBABLY BETTER THAN ANYBODY IN THE DISTRICT, INCLUDING THE EXPERTS IN THE PARTICULAR FIELDS.

SHE'S BEEN THERE FOR THE FOR THE LAUNCH OF THE P-TECH PROGRAM FOR THE CAREER CENTERS.

SHE'S BEEN THERE WITH THE WITH OUR RACIAL EQUITY AND BLACK LIVES MATTERS, ISSUES THAT THAT HAVE COME UP.

SHE HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTING, THE RACIAL EQUITY POLICIES OF THIS DISTRICT.

SHE HAS, REALLY COME UP WITH SOME, I THINK, VERY PROMISING INITIATIVES IN TERMS OF IMPROVING THE

COUNSELING RATIOS AND TAKING SOME THINGS OFF THE PLATES OF COUNSELORS AND FOR TEACHERS, FOR THAT MATTER, IN ORDER TO, MAKE SURE WE GET THE FOCUS BY COUNSELORS AND TEACHERS ON THE THINGS THAT THEY REALLY NEED TO DO.

I'M IMPRESSED WITH, JUST SO MANY ASPECTS OF THE, THE WORK THAT SHE HAS DONE.

YOU KNOW, I, I ALWAYS, FEEL VERY, VERY FORTUNATE THAT WE HAVE HER AS A SUPERINTENDENT BECAUSE SHE IS ONE OF THOSE, THOSE LEADERS WHO TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG AND GIVES AWAY CREDIT TO EVERYONE ELSE WHEN THINGS GO RIGHT AND THIS IS THE EASIEST DECISION I HAVE MADE SINCE I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD.

I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD FOR 11 YEARS NOW, AND WE'VE PASSED TWO BOND PROGRAMS DURING THAT PERIOD OF TIME.

YOU'VE GOT TO BRING TOGETHER A LOT OF PEOPLE IN ORDER TO PASS A BOND.

THOSE WERE THOSE WERE DIFFICULT DECISIONS.

SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO MAKE DECISIONS THAT, YOU KNOW, YOU'RE NOT IT'S NOT 100% OF WHAT YOU WANT.

AND SO YOU SAY, BUT IS IT BETTER TO DO THIS THAN NOT DO THIS? AND WE'VE DONE THAT.

WE HAD TO DO THAT WITH DISTRICT OF INNOVATION.

WE'VE HAD TO DO IT WITH, WITH WITH OTHER, WITH OTHER POLICIES.

SO A LOT OF DECISIONS ARE 60/40, 90/10.

BUT THIS ONE, THIS ONE IS REALLY ONE IN WHICH I HAVE I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT KEEPING SUPERINTENDENT ELIZALDE IN THIS DISTRICT FOR THE LENGTH OF TIME ON THIS CONTRACT, IS ABSOLUTELY THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

AND WE DID HAVE THIS CONTRACT EXTENSION POSTED FOR THE EVENING MEETING IN DECEMBER.

I THINK PRESIDENT HENRY HAD MENTIONED THAT AND WE DID NOT HAVE ANYBODY RAISE ANY OBJECTIONS AT ALL.

THERE WERE I DON'T THINK THERE WERE ANY SPEAKERS.
