>> THANK YOU, JUDGE MOYé. WILL THE HONORABLE CONGRESSWOMAN EDDIE BERNICE JOHNSON, PLEASE COME FORWARD TO ISSUE THE STATEMENT OF ELECTED OFFICER IN THE OATH OF OFFICE TO JUSTIN HENRY.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I'M DELIGHTED THAT I'M LAST SO THAT I CAN TAKE THE PRIVILEGE OF MAKING A FEW STATEMENTS.

FIRST, I WANT TO CONGRATULATE THE SUPERINTENDENT AND ALL OF THE BOARD MEMBERS, FOR THE FINE JOB THAT YOU'RE DOING.

I HAVE SIX SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN DISTRICT 30, AND I WATCH THEM ALL.

THE MOST CHALLENGED ONE IS DISD.

WHAT I APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT DISD IS THE FACT THAT YOU KEEP UP WITH THE TRENDS, YOU CARE ABOUT THE STUDENTS, AND THEY CAN TELL IT, AND WE CAN FEEL IT.

WHEN I READ ABOUT THE SCHOOLS EVERY YEAR, MAKING THE CUT FOR SOME OF THE BEST IN THE NATION, I KNOW THAT L OWE ALL OF THAT TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE HERE, AND KNOW THAT PARENTS HAVE A CHOICE OF WHERE THEY SEND THEIR KIDS TO SCHOOL.

I KNOW SOMETIMES IT'S NOT DISD WHEN THEY LIVE IN DISD, BUT THAT'S A CHOICE THEY MAKE.

BUT YOU HAVE NOT SLACK IN THE PACE, AND KEEPING UP WITH THE TRENDS, LOOKING FOR THE FUTURE, AND I WANT TO REALLY COMPLIMENT YOU FOR LOOKING TOWARD THE STEM FIELDS BECAUSE THAT IS THE FUTURE.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH AND I TRIED MY BEST TO GET OUT OF THIS TODAY, BUT THIS YOUNG MAN TO ME IS ONE OF THE BEST WE'VE HAD ON OUR BOARD, HE DOES HIS HOMEWORK, HE LOOKS AT THE TRENDS AND HE TAKES STANDS SOMETIMES THAT ARE PRETTY TOUGH, BUT THEY ARE THE BEST.

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR PUTTING YOURSELF OUT TO BE ELECTED.

IT'S NOT EASY TO BE OUT THERE UNLESS YOU'VE BEEN OUT THERE AS LONG AS I AM IN THIS ROUTINE.

BUT I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION, YOUR LEADERSHIP, YOUR TENACITY, AND KEEPING YOUR MIND ON WHAT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING A BOARD MEMBER REALLY IS.

THANK YOU.

IF YOU LIFT YOUR HAND.

I AND YOUR NAME.

>> I, JUSTIN HENRY.

>> DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR OR AFFIRM.

TO SECURE MY APPOINTMENT OR CONFIRMATION WITHOUT WHICH THE CASE MAY BE SO, SO HELP ME GOD.

>> PROMISE ANY PUBLIC OFFICE OR EMPLOYMENT FOR THE GIVING OF WITHHOLDING.

>> OKAY. THEN THE SECOND ONE.

>> EVERYONE. PLEASE HELP ME CONGRATULATE.

TRUSTEE EDWIN FLORES, DAN MICCICHE AND JUSTIN HENRY.

ALSO I WANT TO THANK HONORABLE JUDGE ERIC MOYE AND THE HONORABLE CONGRESSWOMAN EDDIE BERNICE JOHNSON FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE CEREMONY THIS EVENING.

TRUSTEE FLORES, WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE ANY COMMENTS?

>> SURE. I WANT TO THANK THE VOTERS OF DISTRICT 1 FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO SERVE ON THE SCHOOL BOARD FOR ANOTHER THREE YEARS.

I'VE COMPLETED MY 13TH YEAR AND I WILL SERVE FOR ANOTHER THREE, SO TOTALING UP 16 YEARS.

IN PARTICULAR, I WANT TO THANK JUDGE ERIC MOYE FOR BEING HERE AND FOR SWEARING ME IN FOR THE FOURTH TIME TO BE A TRUSTEE.

I FIRST MET ERIC WHEN HE WAS OUR LAWYER, HE DID A FANTASTIC WORK AND I WANT TO THANK HIM AGAIN FOR BEING HERE AND PARTICIPATING IN THE CEREMONY AND I WANT TO THANK MY FELLOW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND THE ADMINISTRATION FOR THE GREAT WORK THAT WE'RE DOING AND I HOPE THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

AND SUPPORTIVE OF ALL THESE YEARS OF ME BEING A TRUSTEE. THANK YOU.

>> WELL, THANK YOU. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO THANK JUDGE MOYE.

I AM NOT GOING TO TELL YOU HOW MANY YEARS I'VE KNOWN HIM, BUT MY HAIR.

>> SKIP IT.

>> I DO WANT TO SAY THAT I FEEL VERY HONORED AND PRIVILEGED TO BE ABLE TO REPRESENT EAST DALLAS IN VICKERY MEADOW AND ALL DALLAS ISD FOR ANOTHER TERM.

OUR KIDS ARE AMAZING AND THE WORK THAT OUR EDUCATORS AND STAFF ARE DOING TO HELP THEM ACHIEVE SUCCESS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT WORK THERE IS.

CERTAINLY, I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY'VE GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND IN THIS YEAR OF THE PANDEMIC AND THE SNOWSTORM AND THE AFTERMATH OF THE TORNADOES AND THE POWER SHORTAGES.

I REALLY FEEL THAT WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE THE EDUCATORS AND STAFF THAT WE DO HAVE.

I'M ALSO VERY PROUD OF THE WORK THAT THE DISTRICT IS DOING.

ALL OF THESE INITIATIVES THAT ARE REALLY STARTING TO IMPROVE OPPORTUNITIES AND STUDENT OUTCOMES FROM OUR EXPANSION OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION TO FOCUS ON RACIAL EQUITY AND DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION.

OUR P-TECH AND EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAMS ARE FOCUSED ON A CAREER INSTITUTES AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING.

THIS DISTRICT IS REALLY MAKING GREAT PROGRESS AND IS A GREAT EXAMPLE FOR OTHER DISTRICTS.

BUT WE HAVE TO WORK HARD EVERY DAY.

I AM THANKFUL FOR ALL OF YOU, FOR ALL MY COLLEAGUES ON THE BOARD, FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT AND HIS LEADERSHIP TEAM, AND ALL OF OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF FOR THE GREAT WORK THEY'RE DOING.

ALSO THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNITY.

WE'VE GOT A LOT OF COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS AND WE'VE GOT THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY THAT IS REALLY DECIDED TO BACK DALLAS ISD FROM THE APPLE SCHOOLS TO THE INVESTMENTS BY TOYOTA AND AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER PARTNERS.

SO I'M REALLY JUST PROUD AND I'M GOING TO DO MY BEST OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS TO KEEP US MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. THANK YOU.

>> TRUSTEE HENRY, WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE ANY COMMENTS?

>> YES, AND I'LL BE BRIEF.

I WANT TO REITERATE WHAT MY COLLEAGUES TRUSTEE FLORES AND TRUSTEE MICCICHE HAVE ALREADY SAID FULLY AGREE WITH THE COMMENTS THAT BOTH SAID ABOUT OUR DISTRICT AND OUR COMMUNITY.

STAY ROOTED IN MY FAITH. IT'S AN HONOR AND A BLESSING TO SERVE.

WE ALL SEE THIS AS SERVICE ON THIS BOARD.

IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO GET BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY AND I THINK FOR A LOT OF US IT'S A PURPOSE AND THAT'S WHY WE SERVE AS A PURPOSE TO TRY TO

[00:20:01]

IMPROVE THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR KIDS AND OUR COMMUNITY.

DEFINITELY WANT TO SAY THIS ALL THE TIME, BUT I RECOGNIZE THAT I'M STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS, SOME IN THE ROOM.

JUDGE MOYE THE FIRST, IN MANY REGARDS, WHEN IT COMES TO BLACK ATTORNEYS IN THE CITY OF DALLAS, CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON, YOU ALL KNOW WHO SHE IS AND WHAT SHE'S DONE TO PAVE THE WAY BUT THERE'S MANY OF THESE GIANTS WHOSE SHOULDERS I STAND ON MY MOTHER, MY GRANDMA WAS A SHARE CROPPER AND AN ARKANSAS BEFORE SHE MOVED EAST TEXAS, SO RECOGNIZE THAT I'M STANDING HERE BECAUSE OF THEM SOLD STUFF, STUFF LIKE PURPOSES IN RACIAL EQUITY IS SO IMPORTANT AND BECAUSE IT'S SO PERSONAL, SO I WANT TO THANK THOSE FOLKS, WANT TO THANK ALL THE COLLEAGUES ON THE BOARD AND ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BOARD.

TRUSTEE FOREMAN IS NOT THE ROOM.

TRUSTEE MARSHALL'S IS VIRTUALLY, BUT IT'S AN HONOR TO SERVE WITH YOU ALL.

I WOULDN'T WANT TO SERVE ON ANY OTHER BOARD.

I THINK THIS IS A GREAT BOARD.

I THINK YOU'RE ALL COMMITTED TO CHILDREN AND WE HAD DISAGREEMENTS SOMETIMES, BUT I KNOW WE ALWAYS GET ROUTED BACK TO WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT THAT'S OUR KIDS.

SO IT'S AN HONOR TO SERVE WITH YOU ALL.

IT'S BEEN A DIFFICULT YEAR FOR THE BOARD IS TRUSTEE MICCICHE SAID IT'S BEEN MORE DIFFICULT YEAR FOR EDUCATORS STAFF AND DOCTORS AND SO I WANT TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP ALL THE WAY DOWN THAT MS. FLAHERTY, MY DAUGHTER'S TEACHER, MISS THOMAS AND MR. COHEN WHO'S MY SON'S TEACHERS.

THE AMOUNT OF COMMITMENT AND LOVE THEY POURED INTO OUR KIDS WHEN THEY NEEDED TO SO MUCH HE WAS STRUGGLING AT HOME WITH US AS WE'RE WORKING ADULTS, BUT WHEN HE GOT IN THEIR CLASSROOM IS COMPLETELY SHIFTED.

SO THAT'S ONE STORY, BUT THIS ALL ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

SO I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE ACROSS THE DISTRICT FOR THEIR WORK IN A VERY TOUGH PANDEMIC YEAR.

I'M HONORED TO SERVE. I'LL LEAVE IT THERE AGAIN. I WILL.

THANK YOU, CONGRESSMAN JOHNSON.

WE HAVE INCREDIBLY BUSY SCHEDULE FOR JOINING US THIS EVENING.

MY THING TO MARCUS WHO'S IN THE ROOM MESH ACTUALLY WE'VE KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR A LONG TIME.

IT'S BEEN A HUGE SUPPORTER AND ADVOCATE NOT FOR ME, BUT FOR THE DISTRICT THAT I REPRESENT.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE AT DISTRICT 9.

REGARDLESS OF WHO'S SITTING IN THE SEAT AT WHATEVER TIME YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN PASSIONATE SINCE YOU'RE IN A TEAM BOARD WAY BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL, SO THANK YOU ALL IT'S AN TO SERVER.

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT FEW YEARS, I HAVE A LOT OF TOUGH STUFF AHEAD OF US, INCLUDING ABOUT BUT I WOULDN'T WANT IT TO GO TO BATTLE WITH ANYONE, BUT THE FOLKS IN AROUND THIS TABLE, SO THANK YOU.

>> SUPERINTENDENT IN THE HOUSE AND TRUSTEES, WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE ANY COMMENTS?

>> I'LL BE VERY BRIEF IN MY COMMENTS.

IT'S ATTRIBUTED TO THESE BOARD MEMBERS AT THE COMMUNITY, VOTED AND BACK IN.

I'M ALSO INDEBTED THE JUDGE MOYE WHO HELPED ME KEEP MY JOB DURING ALSO TOOK CARE OF MY FAMILY OVER THESE LAST MANY YEARS.

THOSE ARE ICONS OF THIS COMMUNITY.

THE ONLY QUESTION I HAVE IS WHY IN THE WORLD THAT THIS COMMUNITY AND LIKE FOUR MORE ATTORNEYS IN THE LAST SIX MUST SCHOOL BOARD.

THEY MUST KNOW WE MUST BE FACING SOME DAUNTING LEGAL CHALLENGES IN THE FUTURE BUT I DO WANT TO THANK THIS IS THE BEST BOARD.

DALLAS ISD AS EVER HAD BEYOND THE SHADOW OF A DOUBT, AND THAT IS VERY SINCERE.

SO THANK YOU ALL.

I WANT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS TO MY COLLEAGUE, TRUSTEE FLORES, TRUSTEE MISS WHEN IT COMES TO EQUITY, WE HAVE TOUGH DISCUSSIONS BUT THERE'S NO DOUBT THAT YOU DO WHAT'S BEST FOR KIDS.

FROM COMING OUT OF THE DISTRICT FAB, AND VISITING OTHER DISTRICTS, JUST LOOKING AT OUR COMMUNITY AND SAYING WE MUST DO WHAT'S RIGHT FOR OUR KIDS, NOT JUST ONE DISTRICT BUT ALL DISTRICTS AND THAT'S WHY THE COMMUNITY ELECTED YOU AGAIN BECAUSE OF YOUR LEADERSHIP.

CONTINUE TO DO GREAT BY KIDS, I'M GLAD TO SERVE WITH YOU. I'VE LEARNT A LOT.

WE'RE DOING A LOT TOGETHER TO BRING A DIFFERENCE IN DALLAS ISD.

WE'RE GOING WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT ADMINISTRATION.

AGAIN, THIS IS AWESOME BOARD AND I'M GLAD TO SERVE WITH YOU AND BE YOUR COLLEAGUE.

AGAIN, THANK YOU TO CONGRESSWOMAN EDDIE BERNICE JOHNSON FOR BEING HERE, TAKING OUT OF YOUR BASIC SCHEDULE.

YOU KNOW WE LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU.

DEMARCUS, ALL THIS YOU'VE DONE IN OUR COMMUNITY, WE JUST APPRECIATE YOU JUST BEING HERE SO THANK YOU, EVERYONE. GOD BLESS.

>> YEAH, I'LL JUST FOLLOW UP.

EACH OF YOU ARE THOUGHTFUL, ARE BOLD AND CARING LEADERS AND I WANT TO CONGRATULATE YOU.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT THE WORK THAT WILL HAPPEN IN YOUR NEXT TERM.

YOU MAKE THIS BOARD BETTER, YOU MAKE OUR CITY AND OUR REGION BETTER AND I JUST REALLY WANT TO CONGRATULATE YOU AGAIN. CONGRATULATIONS. YES.

>> I'D LIKE TO ADD MY CONGRATULATIONS AS WELL MR. PRESIDENT, IF NOW IS THE APPROPRIATE TIME.

>> YEAH. GO AHEAD, TRUSTEE MARSHALS.

>> ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. I COULDN'T TELL IF I WAS CUTTING OFF ANYONE ELSE BUT I'M THRILLED OBVIOUSLY THAT THE THREE OF YOU ARE CONTINUING TO SERVE.

IT'S BEEN MY HONOR TO SERVE WITH YOU THESE LAST SEVERAL YEARS AND I ECHO MY COLLEAGUES' SENTIMENTS THAT I DO THINK THAT THIS IS THE MOST THOUGHTFUL AND CERTAINLY HIGHEST FUNCTIONING BOARD THE DIC HAS SEEN IN MANY DECADES AND I THINK THAT THAT'S IN LARGE PART DUE TO THE THREE OF YOU, YOUR THOUGHTFULNESS, YOUR DILIGENCE, YOUR COMMITMENT TO OUR STUDENTS, TO EQUITY AND TO CONTINUE THE IMPROVEMENT OF STUDENT OUTCOMES.

[00:25:03]

I'M GRATEFUL THAT YOU GUYS WERE WILLING TO SERVE FOR ANOTHER THREE YEARS.

I LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT WITH YOU AND PUSH FORWARD OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR KIDS.

CONGRATULATIONS, SORRY, I COULDN'T BE THERE WITH YOU TONIGHT BUT I'M THERE IN SPIRIT AND LOOK FORWARD TO MANY MORE YEARS TO COME OF DOING RIGHT BY KIDS. CONGRATS.

>> I'M NOT GOING TO REPEAT WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAID.

I JUST WANT TO SAY I REMEMBER AS A PRINCIPAL IN DALLAS, I SEE WATCHING ALL THREE OF YOU ON THE BOARD AND I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE NEXT TO YOU AND IT'S BEEN AN HONOR, YOU ARE THREE OF THE MOST THOUGHTFUL AND DILIGENT LEADERS THAT I'VE EVER GOTTEN THE CHANCE TO WORK WITH.

I LEARNED SOMETHING FROM YOU ALL EVERYDAY AND I'M THRILLED THAT YOU ALL HAVE DECIDED TO CARRY ON FOR THREE MORE YEARS AND CONTINUE TO SERVE THIS BOARD AS LEADERS AND I THINK THIS IS A REFERENDUM NOT ONLY ON YOU ALL AS INDIVIDUALS AND REPRESENTATIVES AND TRUSTEES, BUT ALSO THE DECISIONS THAT YOU'VE MADE, THE DIRECTION THIS DISTRICT HAS GONE THAT WE SUPPORTED AND YOU'VE SUPPORTED DOCTOR AND THE HOST OF THE ENTIRE TEAM FOR THE GREAT WORK THAT'S HAPPENING HERE AND CONTINUE TO PUSH DALLAS ISD FORWARD.

ALSO, I DO WANT TO THANK CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON AND JUDGE MOYE FOR BEING HERE.

THE SENTIMENTS THAT I HAVE AROUND LEADERSHIP FOR THE FOLKS SITTING AROUND THIS TABLE ALSO APPLY TO YOU AND WHAT YOU ALL HAVE DONE OVER YOUR CAREERS, SO THANK YOU.

>> I'LL JUST SAY ONE QUICK THING THAT BEING SURROUNDED BY GREAT LEADERS LIKE YOU, MAKES ME AN EVEN BETTER ONE AND IT'S TRULY AN IMMENSE HONOR TO BE HERE WITH YOU FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE SERVED LONG ENOUGH TO HAVE SEEN ME AS A STUDENT AND NOW BE YOUR COLLEAGUE, I THINK IT SPEAKS TO JUST THE DIRECTION OF WHAT YOU'VE DONE FOR STUDENTS GROWING UP IN NEIGHBORHOODS LIKE MINE IN PLEASANT GROVE.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION AND I SINCERELY LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUE SERVING WITH YOU AND DOING ALL THE GREAT THINGS WE CAN DO IN THE CITY OF DALLAS. THANK YOU.

>> ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, ALL TRUSTEES, WE'RE GOING TO TURN THE MEETING OVER TO DR. ANELSA,
